Are we truly connected?

Have you ever felt it that quiet, undeniable sense that you are part of something greater than yourself? Perhaps it came in a fleeting moment of stillness, during meditation, prayer, or simply when witnessing the vastness of nature. A sense that, even without fully understanding it, you were linked to something more, to others, to the universe, to the pulse of life itself.

At Awoken Mind, we often return to this question: Are we truly connected? Not just metaphorically, but in a very real, perhaps even measurable, way. What if this connection isn’t just poetic or spiritual? What if it’s woven into the very fabric of our existence? To explore this, we journey back nearly 14 billion years.

Most scientists agree that our universe began with what we call the Big Bang – a moment of unimaginable intensity and density. Not an explosion in space, but an explosion of space itself. In that moment, time, matter, and energy came into being. Before it, there was nothing. No distance, no atoms, no light. And then suddenly, everything. At the heart of this beginning was an infinitesimally small, blazingly hot point, far smaller than an atom, yet holding within it the potential for all things. When it expanded, it didn’t burst outward into space, it created space. As the universe stretched and cooled, it formed the fundamental particles that would eventually become stars, galaxies, and life itself.

But here lies something extraordinary. In that initial moment, everything was connected. Every atom, every particle of matter, every strand of energy, all were one. Compressed into the same infinitesimal point. And according to both ancient wisdom and modern physics, what was once united, remains connected, even as it expands and separates. Some call this invisible thread the quantum field, others refer to it as the Divine Matrix, the Ether, or the Web of Indra. Indigenous teachings speak of the Spider Grandmother’s web, binding all things together. Science refers to entanglement, where two particles, once linked, remain connected across any distance.

Regardless of the name, the suggestion is the same: we are part of a unified field. It is not merely poetic, it is structural, elemental, even foundational. So when we sense that we are part of something more, that we are inexplicably tied to one another, we are remembering. We are tuning into that original connection. The one we all emerged from. The one that continues, invisibly, between us. You, reading this now, are part of that field. Just as I am. Just as everyone is.

Because even across the distance, we are not separate. We are connected, and always have been.
